From snake bites to cancer and from infertility to diabetes, medicinal herbs and mushrooms have been used to treat all sorts of ailments. Across the cultures. And for thousands of years!

What are Adaptogens?

An Adaptogen is a substance that improves the body’s ability to adapt to stress.  [1]

Stress that is induced by heat, cold, sleep deprivation, uv rays, pollution, psychological factors, infections etc. tends to disturb body’s normal rhythm. Adaptogenic substances are thought to normalize the stress response and reestablish body’s homeostasis. Actual mechanism of how it happens is still unknown.  Modern medical science does not recognize adaptogens as a valid medical term, yet it remains a popular one in alternative medicine circle.

Essential Qualities of an Adaptogen

An adaptogen has to be-

-Non-Toxic

-Must work by increasing  body’s non-specific resistance power (Innate Immunity)
